Hi! I'm an Environmental Science Major with a Freshwater and Terrestrial Ecology Emphasis. My job is to plan work party sites, educate participatnts on native and invasive plants, make sure all participants are conducting their work safely, and most importantly, keep our snack stash stocked! For fun, I like to rock climb, play piano, crochet, read and spend time with my cat :3.

My job is to run our weekly meetings, connect with guest speakers, plan activities, and ensure everyone is having a good time! In my free time outside of this club and school, I enjoy yoga, climbing, and spending time with my loved ones.

I help increase our involvement and visibility in our community and at WWU, facilitating communication and collaboration with other local organizations. I moved to Washington in September 2024 from Florida and I have loved every day of it. I spend my extra time hiking, tide pooling, and spending time with my wife and baby girl.

When we founded the Ecological Restoration Club, I had some idea of what I was getting into, but also no real clue at all. The people, the places, the memories, and the lessons have all played influential roles in my life as I step out of college and into a professional career. Stewardship exists everywhere; it occurs between nearly every living thing on the planet. It’s our responsibility as human beings to find our place in this relationship between ourselves and the “wild.” It makes me so happy to see how ecstatic people in the ERC community are to spend time with their friends and peers while tending the Earth. I am full of pride for the club we started, and I hope it continues to grow and inspire more students—the next generation—to get involved in ecological restoration.
During my junior year we identified a disconnect between passionate, environmentally motivated students and the understaffed world of local land stewardship organizations. We founded restoration club to bridge the gap, allowing students and local organizations to benefit mutualistically from each other’s work. The world of ecological restoration is ever changing and it benefits from wide-reaching community engagement. Diversity of ways of knowing is critical and barriers to accessing communities involved in land stewardship must be removed. This club is for everyone!
Joining ERC was a major step in my commitment to building a future career in the field of restoration. Coming from a geology background, ERC helped expand my knowledge of restoration in an ecological context, building upon the foundation I had started in the geology program. Organizing work parties and events, interacting with guest speakers and making connections with fellow club members were some of my favorite and most meaningful aspects of going to school at Western. Since graduating, I have used skills learned during my time with ERC to work performing ecological restoration in Yosemite and Channel Islands National Park. Go ERC! I’m inspired by everything that ERC and other community members have done to provide meaningful stewardship of our shared lands. People in this community have filled me with optimism that we live in a world where effective land management is possible!
Though my time with the Ecological restoration club was brief it taught me many new skills and has helped lead me down a wonderful path in my life. I learned about all types of restoration from all types of people, plant identification, removal methods, gained public speaking skills and made long lasting connections. I was there for when the club was founded and have seen the club come so far since. It began as just a way to bring people together through Ecological restoration but has now become a dedicated and connected community within the Bellingham area, it is living and breathing. Connections, networking, love, passion, fun, learning, teaching, and dedication are a few of the words that describe this community. I recommend no matter how brief your time may be with this club to give it some of your attention.
